Lecture series "Mindfulness in Education"

The Foundation for Buddhist Studies supported the lecture series "Mindfulness in Education" at the University of Hamburg in the summer semester 2019, organised by Prof. Dr. Telse Iwers, Dr. Carola Roloff and Prof. Dr. Gordon Mitchell.

For some time now, the topic of mindfulness has been finding its way into pedagogical discourses and fields of application in a variety of ways. On the one hand, the aim is to promote a stress-reducing attitude in pupils. This attitude is becoming increasingly virulent against the background of increasing media influences, challenges and opportunities. On the other hand, it is about the development of professional self-regulation of pedagogically active people and their ability to work in a team, whose interactions in educational situations are often decisive for the educational success of the learners.

The lecture series combined these different perspectives, starting from the fundamental question of how mindfulness can be integrated into educational work. Speakers from different fields explored the basics of social-emotional learning as well as the development of professionalism and described their experiences with mindfulness - from kindergarten and primary school to university.
